Job Description
Westaff is seeking a Pre-Press Database/Graphic Design Specialist for a state office in Helena! Schedule: M-F, 7:30-4:30 Term: 3 months Pay: $22/hr Major Duties or Responsibilities (Essential Functions): A. Variable Data (60%): · Understands and uses advanced database design, access methods and techniques for database query, merge/purge, duplicate detection and manipulation. · Reviews and processes variable print jobs, which will include data processing and management; linking data with electronic forms and outputting a print file using a variety of database and variable software tools. · Identifies and corrects problems with customer data. · Processes electronic data through standardization and correction software and presort software. · Provides computer support, assistance, and training to customers over the phone, in person, and publicly on how we need to receive their data. · Evaluates customer data as well as pieces and suggest alternate procedures to facilitate faster delivery with decreased postage costs. · Processes mailings using postal regulations and mail processing requirements. B. Graphic Design (40%): · Creates and produces effective and engaging sales collateral, direct mail, display booth graphics and other printed materials for clients. · Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and crop, selects style and size of type, and arranges layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts. · Creates compelling design concepts, artwork and layout for multi-channel and integrated marketing efforts. · Selects appropriate production media and materials such as ink and paper, and inspects proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards. · Works with a variety of vendors including printers, agencies, photographers, and promotional material suppliers. · Updates and informs staff responsible for printing/processing raw data files with all needed information to complete projects per customer’s specifications. Notifies the Mail Prep Supervisor on requirements for pertaining to each smart insert project. · Assists Desktop Design department with layout of printing projects and printing plate processing including operating and maintenance of the plate burner when needed providing back-up support for other graphic design positions. Qualifications: Education and Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in Business; or a related discipline appropriate to the position; · Two years of job-related experience. Experience in a commercial printing environment would be a plus; · Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Knowledge of: · MS Excel and database skills including the creation and use of pivot tables, graphs, charts, and tables; · Various data formats (i.e. CSV, flat file, etc); · Postal presorting and mail regulations; · Frontend development, including HTML, CSS, and Javascript; · Printable Fusion Pro and Adobe InDesign; · Prepress and variable data software; · Mailing software such as Satori; · Layout and design, reprographics and printing. Ability to: · Use Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Creative Cloud at an advanced level; · Create designs that effectively communicate the desired messages; · Balance technical, artistic, and timing components in order to meet deadlines; · Provide a professional level of customer service, and go above and beyond to exceed expectations; · Be a team player who supports the agency by focusing on the vision, mission, and goals of both the program and work unit; · Perform with honesty and integrity, treating others with dignity and respect; · Communicate effectively with a range of audiences at varied technical levels.
