In addition to the general practice of law, the firm practice focuses on foreclosure, bankruptcy, banking law and regulations, commercial law, real property law, contract law, business organization, wills and estates, guardianships, trusts, probate, administrative law, bond and municipal finance law and employment and labor law. The firm also assists clients with state regulatory matters including liquor, gaming and transportation issues.

JMG was originally established in Helena, Montana, as Harris, Jackson & Bennett in 1970. Gordon Bennett went on to serve as a State District Court Judge and is now retired. L.V. Harris served in an ''of-counsel'' position to the firm from 1977 until his death in 1996. David Jackson continues to practice law with the firm.
