about us
Located in Helena's historic downtown, Helena Abstract and Title Company (HA&TCo.) is just steps away from the walking mall at the base of the Rocky Mountain front. Helena boasts many specialty shops and restaurants to choose from, as well as the original buildings that were built once the miners set in to make this town their home. We are also near the original Fire Tower, the Governor's Mansion, the Cathedral of St. Helena, Reeder's Alley and the Mansion District. HA&TCo. has chosen to make its home in the Montana Club Building. Originally build in 1893, this was considered to be the ''most magnificent building this side of Chicago devoted to club purposes''. Built as a millionaire gentleman's club, women were only allowed into certain rooms and at certain times. The original building succumbed to a fire in April 1903, when Harry Anderson, the fourteen-year-old son of the club's bartender, Julian Anderson, set the fire in the northwest corner of the top floor. Cass Gilbert, a renowned St. Paul and New York architect with ties to Helena was hired as the architect to build the new building that stands today. Construction began March 1904, and in June 1905 the building was ready for use. Though the new building isn't as extravagant as the original, the building is still amazing to walk through due to its magnificent architecture.
