Analytic Department Lead

Mountain-Pacific Quality Health
Job Description
ABOUT US Mountain-Pacific Quality Health is a nonprofit partnering within our communities to provide solutions for better health. Since opening our doors in Helena, Montana, in 1973, we have broadened our reach to include Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. Pacific Territories of Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. We partner with health care providers, practitioners, stakeholders and patients on a variety of quality improvement initiatives to achieve better care, better population health and lower health care costs. We pride ourselves on creating a healthy work-life balance for our employees, balancing family responsibilities and passions outside of work with a rewarding career. For many years we have successfully integrated employees working remotely with our office staff, including remote employees in senior positions. We have an opening for an Analytic Department Lead Looking for an applicant with a degree in a data-related field to join our team of analysts to help us summarize, report and interpret healthcare data. In the Analytic Department, we use Medicare insurance claims to drive quality improvement work. For example, a federal contract requires us to partner with hospitals in our region to lower readmission rates. We use our multi-gigabyte claims files to calculate those rates and report back to our federal funding agencies, but that’s only the beginning. What diagnosis is most common? Was there outpatient care before the readmission? Are there differences by age, gender, or ethnicity? What about by geography? Would a map showing rates over time, and linked out to census or other public data, help guide improvement? We have expert pharmacists, nurses, and quality improvement professionals who want to explore those questions. Our field staff meet regularly with the healthcare providers in our region to find solutions. We need creative analysts to contribute. That includes the technical skills to push our analyses and data visualizations forward, and the openness to learn what questions to pursue from our staff and clinical partners. Necessary Skills Strong statistical or data-related background and work experience Strong SAS or other statistical programming experience, like R Experience manipulating data with general-purpose programming languages, like Python Experience in report generation and/or data visualization using business intelligence tools Experience using SQL to manipulate large relational databases Excellent communications skills Ability to work collaboratively with teams of statistical, clinical, IT, and communications professionals Healthcare related work experience is a plus. Although, skilled data professionals with the technical proficiencies listed above and experience is in a non-healthcare field—business, engineering, environmental, etc.—are encouraged to apply Would you like to join a company that is a recognized leader for driving innovation in health care?
