Event Description:
MSU/Lewis & Clark County Extension is offering the Level I Master Gardener class in Helena beginning March 5, 2015. The classes meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the UM-Helena Campus in their lecture hall. There are 9 classes in this series. The cost of the class is $120, which includes the cost of the Master Gardener Handbook and a $25 deposit that is refunded upon completion of 20 hours of volunteer time. The Extension office is offering two $50 scholarship for the class, and the Helena Garden Club is sponsoring a $40 scholarship to help pay for the class.
The topics that will be covered in the level I class include: soils and nutrients, plant growth and development, vegetable gardening, herbaceous ornamentals, native plants, planting and maintaining trees and shrubs, pruning, turfgrass, irrigation, small fruit, tree fruit, composting and integrated pest management. This will be the sixth consecutive year that the Master Gardener class has been taught in Helena, and every year we have more fun. Come join the fun and become a Master Gardener.
